The euchromatin histone methyltransferases (EHMTs) are an evolutionarily conserved protein family that are known for their ability to dimethylate histone 3 at lysine 9 in euchromatic regions of the genome. In mammals there are two EHMT proteins, G9a, encoded by EHMT2, and GLP, encoded by EHMT1.
